Google clips, Ethical Dilemma

What is it?

Google clips is a hands off camera produced by google, it is marketed towards parents and pet owners who take alot of pictures. It uses a blend of AI and facial recognition software designed to capture important or funny moments in a persons life.

What makes it not ethical?

Many people argue that this is another way for google to collect data as a surveillance device to sell to advertisers on the internet, while this is possible and unethical greater the promblem with these cameras is security issues. You can monitor what is happening on your phone at any time which shows that there is contant surveillance of your home. Promblems could definitley accour with this device, for example a hacker could very easley sign into a active device and spy on you which could be used for ransom.

Positives Negatives
Can possibly help capture pictures of funny moments. Privacy could be invaded.
Could help with robberies/burglaries. Hackers could hold video for ransom.
Help save time of taking pictures. Google could sell of data collected from AI.

What makes it ethical?

The counter agruement to what makes this device ethical is simple, since you choose to put this device in your house then you should know and understand the risk you are taking. Just like computors, laptops, phones and all other devices with cameras they can all be hacked or moniterd with ill/ malicious intent. So the question should be what is the differnce between this and all other things that are capable of the samething.

Personel thoughts.

I think that this product is ethical to sell to consumers as long as it is secure, safe, and it is not collecting any data from the AI/Facial reconition software. I also think since phones, laptops, desktops, and AI voice reconition devices such as amazons Alexa are already being used all the time then this device is practically the same thing as those.
